tea bag project
Curious about residues and absence, I heard the marks and gaps left by residues of used teabags on different papers calling me to explore. The lines and gaps are the gestures of the tea bags which become actants in my exploration.

This is an extension of the landscape / figure belowarrived at by playing with warping and colouring in Affinity.

B & W image: I traced many of the residue prints on to an acetate, cut out the teabag circles and played with them until I reached this configuration of a landscape / figure reclining.
Colour image: I played with the figure and got to this person dancing.

Focusing on lines / gaps, I am leaning heavily on Tim Ingold's "The life of lines" taking lines in an anthropological context, and Guido Strazza's " Opere" in which he emphasises the relationship of the gesture and the mark & how the whole body and mind are involved in making the mark. I am developing a project on exploring the paradox that exists when absence denotes presence in both my seaweed cyanotypes and teabag lines, and in which Ingold and Strazza will shine a head torch on the path. The figures in Ercolano will also play a part.
